Repairs
Woodwinds (scroll down for pricelist)
Katix Music has the ability to repair all woodwind instruments from student models to professional models. We provide very minor repairs such as tenon cork replacement as well repads and overhauls. We highly recommend that woodwind players have a COA (clean, oil and adjust) done to their instrument at least every other year. This helps keep the instrument and keys clean, pads current, mechanisms oiled and regulated so you/your student can play to their full potential. In between COAs it is recommended to bring your instrument in for a PC (playing condition) to make sure the instrument is in regulation and that there are no torn pads. It’s is best to do repairs as a precaution on a timeline that fits between your rehearsals/performances instead of waiting until the week before a performance/contest to find out you need a repad.
Services offered:
- PC (playing condition) - Perform repairs necessary for the instrument to play (Recommended at least once a year)
- COA (clean, oil, adjust) - Disassemble, clean, polish body and keys (unless they are lacquered), replace any torn/worn pads and key corks, thoroughly clean all mechanisms and oil, regulate. (Recommended at least every other year)
- Repad - COA plus replacing all pads and corks (as needed)
- Overhaul - Repad plus fitting all keys/rods/screws/mechanisms to the highest level possible. (Replating is optional and would be an extra charge) (as needed)
Professional flutes: Katix Music has the only Straubinger certified technician in the state of Alabama. She can do minor repairs up to an overhaul. We are working on building up our stock of Straubinger pads so it may take 1-2 weeks for the repair to be complete if it needs several pads but this turnaround will shorten as our pad stock grows.
Brass (scroll down for pricelist)
Katix music repairs all brass instruments from student models to professional models. For cleanings we use chemical baths along with a sonic cleaner that fits all sizes of brass instruments (yes, even 5/4 tubas!).
Services offered:
- PC (playing condition) - Perform repairs necessary for the instrument to play (as needed)
- Sonic clean - PC plus disassemble the instrument, degrease, sonic clean, port pistons/rotors replace felts/corks
- Trombones - this would include minor slide dent/alignment (recommended once a year)
